Thursday Tech [Honey Chrome Extension]

Honey chrome extension

Honey chrome extension

Can’t recall how I found this money saving Chrome extension, but Honey is beyond awesome.

Honey does what RetailMeNot, Slickdeals and other similar sites can’t do. Automatic Couponing. What do I mean by that. Essentially Honey scours the web, finds a relevant coupon and automagically applies it at checkout. It doesn’t get easier than this, folks.

I first used Honey at (my registrar of choice) NameCheap. Basically after I found the domain name I was looking for, I then headed for checkout and simply clicked the Honey icon on my toolbar. Sure enough after about a minute or so – it found a relevant coupon code, auto applied it to my cart and I saved a few bucks on my purchase. ๐Ÿ™‚

You can find Honey at the Chrome store as a free download. My only complaint with this browser extension is just that – its a browser extension and as such can only be used on a desktop or laptop. It isn’t compatible with mobile devices. ๐Ÿ™ Considering that everything is mobile today, its surprising there’s no app. Yet. We want an Android app please. Unless there’s something we’re misunderstanding with the Honey Chrome extension – why is this only available as an add-on for our toolbar?

But bottom line: If you shop online alot and don’t mind saving money, you will love Honey. And that concludes this edition of Thursday Tech. Stay tuned next week, where we will feature another great tech find.

FREE Lyft Credit For New Users: 5 Ways To Score Them

lyft free credit

lyft free credit

If you’re looking for free Lyft credit for new users, in this article we highlight a few ways to score some.

With free credit from Lyft you can ride for a few dollars or yes! even free. (But please do tip your driver!) Tips are welcome and appreciate. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok. See our list of ways to net some free Lyft credit for new users. (these tips are not for existing users, that’s another article)

  1. Friends –

Reaching out to friends is one of the fastest ways to score Free Lyft credit. Call or text your buddies who you know use the popular ride sharing service and ask if they have any promo codes available. If they’re Lyft users, chances are – they WILL have codes. As the old saying goes, “Ask and you shall receive”. So ask.

2. Social Media –

Another great method to find codes for Lyft is via social media, especially Facebook and Twitter. You can post an update that you;re looking for Lyft credit and then wait about a nano second for a reply. Most likely if any of your friends use Lyft; you’ll get a code asap. Another way is to visit the Lyft FB page itself and see if any are posted for members.

3. Bloggers –

Bloggers (like me) usually have codes for many different companies and brands, including Lyft and Uber. Just reach out to the bloggers you know or follow and search on their blog. Search for Lyft codes, Lyft discount code, Lyft promo code, Lyft credit, etc.

Yes! We have one for you, see it below.

Code: BLOGPOSTCODE (in caps – all one word, no spaces)

4. Coupon Sites

Coupon sites also have Lyft promo codes although many times they’re not the most recent. Having said that we still feel this is a good place to check. Try Retail Me Not and Coupon Cabin.

5. Local Flyers –

We see flyers, business cards and postcards all the time posted locally; such as in coffee shops, bars, laundry mats, auto repair places, grocery stores, ย etc. These usually have good codes on them, just always check the expiration date of promo.

As you can see there are quite a few ways to score free Lyft credit for new users.

If you’re still having trouble, contact me ASAP as I always have promo codes available. ๐Ÿ™‚

Top 5 Chicago Deal Sites (For this #Weekend)

blueman group chicago tickets

blueman group chicago tickets

Deal sites have been around for quite a while now, and since then many have come and gone – while others remain and become bigger and more popular than ever. There’s a reason these sites have stood the test of time and its because they met a well needed demand.

Saving money!

Consumers love to save money and that’s exactly what these deal sites do – save consumers dollars. So let’s take a look at what we consider the top 5 Chicago deal sites to visit. Looking for something fun and affordable to do this weekend? Try one of the many deals offered on the sites below.

  1. Crowd Seats – this is a ticket deal site that has a Chicago category and whatever ticket need you have, Crowd Seats most likely has it in stock and ready to ship or buy online. From sports (Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, etc) to popular Chicago plays and top notch Chicago concert events. Good deals can be found through Crowd Seats or you can offer up the discounted event tickets as a gift idea.
  2. Trivago Chicago – is a hotels deal site with a Chicago section. You can search by reviews, stars, price, location, amenities or simply by name. They have an app for those who prefer to search while on the go. The site also has good information on each hotel, complete with lots of photos and some with even video. Customer reviews are available and readily displayed for a variety of hotels to help you make a decision one way or the other. Basically Trivago is a hotels search engine making it easier and faster for you to find the perfect (and affordable) Chicago lodging for you and your family.
  3. Groupon – this city based deal site has been around long enough, where you most likely have already heard of it, maybe even used it a few times. But did you know Groupon is based in Chicago and has been since 2008. In fact, today Groupon celebrates its 8th year anniversary as according to Wikipedia – the company was founded on January 15th, 2008. Congrats!!! This site has it share of fans (as well as non-fans) but there’s no mistaking the sheer number of AWESOME DEALS that you can find through this site. And specifically for Chicago – from restaurants to local business services and hotels to entertainment; Groupon has it all.
  4. Living Social – Living Social like #3 on our list also has lots of discounts on dining, fashion, services, travel and more. However for some reason, this site didn’t quite take off like Groupon did, but its still around and still has fabulous deals you can score. As I write this, Living Social Chicago has 1,077 deals for you to look at and benefit from. Such as Admission for 1,2 or 4 to a Chinatown food tour of Chicago or how about some Tango classes. This is definitely a fun site with many different types of deals offered. Enjoy!
  5. Goldstar Chicago – this is perhaps the least known of the deal sites on my list, but not sure why when it has really great offerings. Especially in Chicago entertainment such as comedy shows, musicals, local plays, conventions, dinner shows and more. For example, why pay full price on a pair of tickets to go see the awesome Blue Man Group extravaganza when you can pay almost half. Why? We say head on over to Goldstar Chicago and net yourself some savings and see a great show all at the same time. image source: (Goldstar)

If you found this Chicago deals sites list helpful, please share it on your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest. (pretty please and thank you!)

We appreciate you visiting, reading and or sharing. ๐Ÿ™‚

Want to help people recycle their old devices due to back to school purchases?

gazelle affiliate program

If you happen to know quite a bit of friends and family members who have old or recently used cell phones collecting dust in a drawer, and want to start a mini movement of having these phones recycled or even make some cash out of it – Gazelle is a good choice for your project. Not too mention that with back to school soon in motion, many parents will go out and buy their kids new devices and gadgets. Again Gazelle is a good option to send your or your friends previous generation devices.

Gazelle is one of the leading online electronic recyclers and depending on the age, model and condition of the electronic you send in – you could get some money in the process. If it’s very old and not worth any cash, they will tell you so and instead recycle the device for you. So either way – it’s a win.

Sign up here: Gazelle

Right now if you sign up under my link, I get a small bonus for referring you – as Gazelle is trying to get the word out and raise awareness due to the many back to school gadgets that will be bought in the next few weeks. So when the new devices are bought, what will consumers do with their current devices? You can spread the word on your blog and let them know about Gazelle and how they may possibly make some side cash by sending in their gently used cell phone, tablet, etc to this recycler. If it’s a newer model device like for example an iPhone 4 or 5 – chances are good, they WILL get some cash back.

Spread the good word – and thanks for sharing about this great green and eco friendly Gazelle initiative.

I was recently introduced to the Paul Mitchell School of Chicago – which provides discounted haircuts for Chicago residents. You don’t need to be a student, school is open to the public. Anyone can partake in the services offered here and they do offer quite the menu of hair care services.

The price varies between the type of student you make an appointment with – Phase 1 and or Phase 2. Phase 2 students have more schooling and or experience than Phase 1 students. They offer hair cuts, perms, straightening services, coloring and more.
